If Maggie Jefferis had all the money in the world, she would go to Universal Studios and spend the day going to every exhibit, especially her favorite, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
“I was born, and then I lived,” Jefferis,15, of Jackson, says in a poetic fashion. Her parents got divorced when she was 11, and she was homeschooled from the third grade until the summer before her seventh-grade year.
She will be a sophomore at Murrah High School in the fall and has five siblings: an older sister, a younger stepbrother, two younger sisters and a younger stepsister.
Jefferis has many hobbies. She likes to debate (and has won several awards), likes a little bit of everything when it comes to music, writes and reads fiction books. She loves soccer, too.
“I like to draw even though I’m horrible at it,” Jefferis says.
Jefferis wants to be a teacher when she grows up. “It’s a way that I can make a difference in the world,” she said. “There is not one person that has influenced me the most, but rather everyone influences me with their different (experiences) and things they do.”
The Youth Media Project appeals to Jefferis because she enjoys writing. Her teacher Mrs. Lynne Schneider, who is YMP’s program manager this summer, recommended that she participate.
Jefferis likes Jackson and thinks it is a cool place, “There are parts of it that are not so cool, but a lot of times the people that really don’t like Jackson are people that don’t live in Jackson, so they don’t know what Jackson’s like,” Jefferis said.
